  • The Rhoers Club

Rhoer shieldThe Rhoers Club aims to provide a positive experience for young women ages 13 to 18 in leadership development, academic counseling, personal counseling, mentoring, community service, and rites of passage. Rhoer Clubs were founded in 1939 at the 14th International Boule of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. Rhoers are high school-aged girls participating in many sorority activities and unique youth development programs.

Rhoer Clubs offers girls the opportunity to build their self-esteem, learn about their heritage, and develop the skills needed to succeed personally and academically. Leadership, community service, and scholarship are the hallmarks of the Rhoer Club's activities.

Rhoers are organized on a local, regional, and national level. Local clubs are advised by Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. chapters and attend annual regional meetings to meet other Rhoers from their region. There are five regions nationally. Rhoers attend the sorority's International Boule every two years and meet Rhoers from all over the country to exchange ideas, receive training, and have fun.

  • The Philo ClubPhilo Shield

Since its inception, Sigma Gamma Rho has promoted unity among women. For years, many alumnae chapters have worked with individuals who were not members of Greek-lettered organizations and who do not possess a four-year degree from a college or university. These women were organized into auxiliaries with various names until 1954 when the sorority officially approved the organized affiliate group and accepted the name "Philo" (meaning friend) as their official name.

In 1980, the Philos were organized nationally and have grown to represent hundreds of women organized on a regional level. Today, the Philo Club consists of women of high caliber, dedication, and commitment who share the sorority's principles of sisterhood and service. These women assist Sigma Gamma Rho with our numerous service-oriented projects, programs, and social activities sponsored by their advising chapter. The Philos have contributed countless hours of community service and thousands of dollars to aid Sigma Gamma Rho's aim to enhance the quality of life within every community.
